I hope this is not equivalent to Ford VS Dodge VS Chevy pickup debate...
- Longevity?
- Power?
- Ease of maintenance?
- Mileage? Maybe over 100,000 depending on age of coach. We had that on ours, buying it 16 years old with 80,000 something on it.
- Question Two will be exactly Ford/Dodge/Chevy. Fervent loyalists. If you want to go 300000 miles plus, I'd say Ford. The older Chevys might have the 7.4/454/Rat Motor/Big Block. Newer ones will be the new 6.0 small block upgrade/replacement. I would NOT get a Chevy of any size powered with a 5.7. Dodge went out of MoHo chassis business late 1970's and there weren't any capable of carrying 25-ft and bigger Class C. The diesel Sprinter was branded Dodge awhile, but it's a different much smaller animal.
Our Ford is a Big Strong Beast. That V10 will get you there, and pull what you're towing. Supposed to be more powerful than a 460, but I loved the down'n'dirty grunt the 460 in our first coach had. The 454 was the same story, but it was interesting. 454 owners wished theirs had more power. 460 owners wished for better gas mileage.
Don't get hung up on a diesel in a Ford MoHo. They are de-tuned versions of the pickup engine, and they add way too much weight to the front axle. The new Chevy 4500 offers Duramax/Allison. Expensive and I don't know what its ratings and capabilities are. If it's like other D/A setups, it's a good powerplant.
