I've never heard that one before and I can't see why starting the generator with a load would be a problem. The generator output goes to a transfer switch that defaults to shore power side. When voltage on the generator inputs is sensed and is stable for about 30 seconds it will transfer the load to the generator. At least that's the way my 2010 Roadtrek 210P electrical system works. So the generator is started without any load being applied even if all the 120v devices are turned on.
