That's horrible. And the reason both my motorcycles are currently for sale. No one pays attention anymore. It's a terrible tragedy, but how do you not see a 40-foot RV coming down the road? I beat the importance of no-distractions into my 17-year-old son's head at every opportunity.
Anyway, back on topic. The "safety" questions have pretty much been answered. It's about mass and proximity to metal, plastic and glass that determines whether an airbag is useful. Class As don't need them.
With regard to driveability, it's pretty subjective. I dipped my toe into RVing by renting a Class C from Cruise America about 5 years ago. It handled okay for what it was, but I felt like I was sitting really low compared to where the rest of the vehicle was. I felt like I couldn't see well out of it. I felt cramped. So I bought a Class A. Yes it's a decades-old Class A but I love it. It doesn't handle as well as a modern coach but I feel like it's easy to maneuver, easy to see out of and spacious.
