Spousal Unit and I rented a class C to see if we'd be able to tolerate each other in such tight quarters. After a two-week trip, we were sure we'd be fine in a larger motorhome, as the C was just too tight. Neither one of us had any issues with driving it.
We wanted a Winnebago, so after mucho research, we wound up with an Itasca Sunrise. What room! What comfort! And driving her was easy, after a few miles of practice. She took us across the US and back several times, and we full-timed in her right after retirement, until we found the S&B we wanted.
A couple years ago, Spousal Unit decided we needed a trailer. Boy, was that a disaster. The trailer itself was very nice, but we just aren't trailer people. So we had an old class A and a new trailer. Guess which one we still used?
Earlier this year, we finally bit the bullet and traded both trailer and class A on a new Winnebago diesel pusher. The first serious road trip was to Alaska and back. I drove nearly all of it, since SU's Parkinson's was acting up, primarily in his right leg, which made for some very interesting accelerations. So I took over all the driving.
It's a very nice DP, and the air suspension sure makes for a comfortable ride. Have to say, though, I absolutely despise the dark paint job, which is the subject of another thread, but anyway...
Concur with other folks. You need to spend some time in both classes, to get a feel for whichever will best fit your comfort zone and your needs.
From personal experience, choosing the wrong one will cost you. Good luck.
