What DrewE didn't explain is that the gallons over here are only 3.8 litres, hence the difference in mpg.
As an ex-pat (from Lancashire) who has lived over here since July 1968, I welcome your adventure. I hope you make it all the way across to the West Coast. We have "real" mountains over here, the kind with snow on the top all year and going up well over 8000 feet. We reckon anything with trees all the way to the top is a hill.
Anacortes is a small town (about 18,000 pop.) about 50 crow-fly miles from the border with Canada. we've lived here 15 years, after I took early retirement from Boeing.
