Hi,
Some interesting comments. I have been thinking long and hard about whether to buy an Rv or ship mine over. Getting the right vehicle at a good price comes with a degree of risk at both the buy and sell ends. With shipping I know exactly how much it will cost me and can budget for it.
Because we use ac power so infrequently and my generator is great back up I am not too concerned about it. That said I can always buy an adaptor converter to solve any hook up probs. literally everything in our motorhome is either 12volt or gas and it's probably where there is some difference. There seems from what I am reading here a greater reliance on ac power. We free camp - you call it boondocking I think - all over Europe and the Uk. Europe in particular is set up for it with literally thousands of cities towns and villages providing what is called Aires where water and waste facilities plus parking is available often at little or no cost.
Parts and potential repairs maybe problematic but I will carry spares such as fuel and water pump and drive belts. Rally driving in outback Australia taught me to be self sufficient and well planned.
Our rough plan at this stage is into Halifax 2nd half of 2015 explore Eastern Canada the follow the sun south and west for winter then north following Rockies maybe to visit friends at Trail in British Columbia then south to Yellowstone and East towards Haifax for return home. I would have ship out inside one year or pay import duty so the trip will depend on how long your Govt will let us stay.
I may store it in. Canada at my friends property an do more.
We are both really excited by the potential of such a trip and it won't come soon enough.
That said we are off to Germany to Berlin the south to Spain then Sicily next week.
The road beckons!
Thanks for your help
Barry
