Come over to our side of the US, Barry. Washington and Oregon have summer climates very similar to Cornwall. Air conditioning isn't needed except in the height of the summer. Winter can be dull and soggy, not much of the crisp, clear days the UK gets.
The scenery is a lot more spectacular than the Eastern states. We have real "mountains", with tree-lines, bare rock above and year round glaciers. Mount Baker, about 70 miles from us is about 9000 ft high and Mount Rainier, about 130 miles south is over 14,000 feet. There are several other dormant volcanoes in the Cascades.
The Olympic mountains, south a bit and west, go well over 8,000 feet and stretch for 300 miles or more. Definitely impressive country. Hope you make it over this side.
To give you a perspective, I dealt with an airline in Bahrain when I was with Boeing. When their tech rep was visiting us, he got a fax from his boss that said "While you're over there, nip across to New York to talk to TWA about leasing another of their airplanes". His response was "Why don't you "nip across", you're closer to New York than I am".
