A longer than 27 footer does not "need" a towed vehicle for most purposes. You can get around in cities and in moderately primitive camping areas surprisingly well in a 27 footer. A short rig is generally as wide as a longer rig. There is more overhang on a longer rig and the longer wheelbase makes for somewhat longer turning radius. These factors are not major problems and can be overcome by technique. Parking a 27 footer in a restaurant or tourist attraction parking lot is usually easy enough but may require you to walk a little farther. The plusses for a 27 footer compared to a 22-24 footer are considerably more cargo and interior cabinet space, rear bedroom with RV queen bed for mom and dad, kids if any, sleep in the overhead.Dinette or sofa may also convert to a bed.We started out in a short rig and eventually went to a 27 footer primarily for the rear bedroom, not having to climb ladder and climb over sleeping spouse. Also no need for bags and boxes/clutter in the aisle, shower, overhead and dining area. Don't be overawed by a little extra length, you'll get used to it and wonder why you were concerned. If you need a car occasionally, you can rent one or use shuttle bus to get to tourist attractions in Boston or NYC/other RV unfriendly places. Most RV's are too tall for parking garages regardless of length.
