For the record, I am very mechanical and suspect I will fix almost anything myself, because normally, I don't trust anyone to fix it as well as myself. Being new is why I purposefully chose an older home, one that was tried and true and had probably already had most of what went wrong with it fixed and or replaced by now. Also, being new, dropping 150-200k on something until we were sure this lifestyle was what we wanted did not seem wise :)
Yes, I have enough money to deal with anything that arises. And truth be told, after beng a repair plumber for 35 years, doing nothing but fixing things, I kind of want to not have to do anymore fixing of things in my latter years (54) and just ride and enjoy.
But my wallet is not limitless and an unexpected $15,000 tranny repair will STING!!! I don't have the kind of money that I could just cut a check for it and act like it was nothing no. I could and will, but it would OUCH :(
Course all of this was speculation until I actually BOUGHT this huge beast and now.....the goosebumps started, hence, my questions. I am wise enough to know that even a DYI man like myself, one capable and not afraid of tackling any job on an RV, is still VERY limited when it comes to the mechanical aspect of it. No, I cannot rip down and rebuild an engine by a long shot and seeing as how I don't know the first thing abut them, it's going to be a long journey in learning what makes my new home tick.
I specifically chose Newmar because I heard they have a heck of a good customers service team and their parts dept is very organized. In other words, they have their **** together :)
I have just learned soooooo much by the individuals who just freely and caringly donated their time on Christmas to help me, a nobody, that already, my confidence grows at a steady pace :)
I thank you all again and again. Your information was more than just informative, but rather, completely changed my outlook on my worries :)))))
