I think the number of "major" issues that you alluded to above are very few and far between. If you know your way around under the hood and in a woodshop, you'll be able to handle most any RV type repair, IMO.
Sorry, not speaking to the best brands as I don't have a Class C, but do have a TC which is quite similar.
I'll add that since you're looking at Super Cs which by their expense, I believe the camper portions are all from fairly good quality brands.
