- SoCalDesertRid1Explorer IIIf all vehicles on the road were limited to 65 mph, that would be just fine with me.
We have lots of Interstate in AZ with 75 mph speed limits. What that means is half the people on the road are driving 80-95 mph. Then, there are trucks and slower moving RV's and cars going 60-80 mph on the flats and 35-60 mph up the hills, while the fast drivers are still trying to do 80-95 up the hills, because they can. That makes for a giant unsafe situation up every hill, as others here have already stated.
The problem as I see it, is not trucks not going fast enough. The problem is too high a speed limit, because we all know that there will be speeders, no matter what the speed limit is, and they are going wayyyy too fast, compared to the trucks and other traffic who are obeying the speed limit.
These speeders also like to drive with their brights on and blind everyone they come upon.
And let's not forget, it is primarily TRUCKS that pay for the highways, as commercial vehicles are taxed and fee'd to the moon and beyond. The highways belong to the trucks. Four wheelers (cars) are just using the roads that the trucks pay for. - rk911Explorer

J rooster> It is the FMCSA hat is wanting the speed limiters. There is no mention in their literature of limiting 4 wheelers as that is a state matter. FMCSA only regulates commercial vehicles. Every state would have to have a law for motorhomes. Not going to happen. Imagine all the BS from the legislators. Texas would probably want the speed at 90 and others 55. Those clowns cannot even agree on the earth not being flat!

FMCSA? don't mess with Texas. - moishehExplorerJ rooster> It is the FMCSA hat is wanting the speed limiters. There is no mention in their literature of limiting 4 wheelers as that is a state matter. :) Hi, well if they limit the speeds of vehicles, the cops will go broke for not writing speeding tickets.
Speeds are already limited for vehicles and there will always be people trying to go faster. - Mile_HighExplorer

The only logical solution, which doesn't seem to be in their intellect, is same speed for both trucks and cars, and mandate trucks stick to right lanes.
Everyone who runs I69 In Indiana knows the problem of Truckers playing games, micro passing etc at their limit, of what is it now, 65, while everyone else on the road is doing a slow burn trying to get around them. They will run side by side talking on cbs or phones for miles on end.
The various companies do set their rigs to 65,67,68, and a few 70. And they all create problems like a rolling roadblock.
X2! I'd even give them the left lane to keep them out of the merging traffic in the right lanes. I really get tired of watching them travel 3 across for miles so they can reposition. - down_homeExplorer IIHigher raates of speed clear the roadways quicker, or if you like allow the roads to carry a greater traffic load.
Problem is disparity in speeds.
Most people drive according to the speed of the traffic despite or in spite of what is posted.
Speeds are still lower, than pre Gerald Ford or Nixon's 55mph.
In Tn the limit was 75 and was going to 85 before that.
All the semis on the road is a problem for everyone else, and the reason they are there is Free Trade.
They are hauling everything from ports and distribution centers.

The article I read in U.S.A. Today said nothing about commercial vehicles! It was all about vehicle weight and, all vehicles 26,000 lbs. and over it will effect.
Regarding the original topic I have not seen anything suggesting privately owned coaches would be affected. Seems to be focused entirely on commercial trucks and buses.
Still, the topic will bear watching. - J-RoosterExplorer

X-2, I like the law it slows everything down!
Not a big deal. Many over the road trucks are already governed to those speeds by the trucking company to save fuel. - wa8yxmExplorer IIIOn my RV with the original engine the "Sweet Spot" MPG wise was 55-60.. So I self limit
I won't know the sweet spot for the replacement engine till I get it put in but I'm anticipating the same. - slickest1Explorer

No, in many ways we can't.
I guess personal responsibility has completely gone out the window, and the good 'ole gubmint has to take control of our lives in every aspect because we can certainly not be trusted to govern ourselves.......
I look forward (but I'll be dead) to driver-free vehicles. You sit back, you enjoy. No humans screwing it up.
Alot of the vehicles on the road are already driver less. There is a body sitting behind the wheel but not much for brains!!
I drove trucks and for the last couple years that I drove they were speed rated. 60 mph. Good idea on one side of the page and bad on the other. You get behind someone in a truck car or Motorhome that is doing even 50mph, and you pull out to pass it takes a while to get by and everyone is put out with you.
Alot has been said about the trucks on here but some guys should spend a couple days in one before they make all these acertions about truckers.Imagine driving your motorhome and dagging twice the weight of it with the same power and having all thee same inconsiderate drivers cutting you off or doing stupid things in front of you. It is not that easy.
