No go water heater

Check the water valves. Ill bet their still in the winterize position

Did you re-open the By-pass to the Heater?

If you have fired up the water heater without water in it the heater element is probably toast now. Some have a thermo kickout so you may be ok...

Need to check to make sure the heater has cold water in it before firing it up... Easy check is to go pop the hot water relief valve on the back and it should squirt water...


If no water then the most probably cause is the winterizing valves are in the wrong position..

This is pictorial for the older setups with three valves like I use here...

Sounds like you have dry fired the water heater

Sounds like you also have a Suburban Water Heater (circuit board inside cabinet)

Fortunately you dry fired using propane (Started water heater (DSI). Red light came on, burner fired up)


NOW hopefully you have waited until tank has cooled down before allowing cold water into WH TANK.......(Steel tank GLASS LINED!!!!!)

Once cooled and you have changed valving from 'winterize' to 'normal' and tank has filled---------reset the High Temp T-stat
Outside compartment above gas valve 'Push to Reset' buttons
Left one is to reset the 120V AC (electric)
Right one is to reset the 12V DC (propane)

Problem solved! Thanks all! As usual I thought I knew what I was doing but that wasn't the case. As soon as I checked for water at the pressure relief valve and got none, I knew I had the bypass valve for the water heater in the wrong position. Corrected my position and all is well. Thanks so much to all who chimed in!
