My mechanic buddy went to a home where the owner had the same problem. They even had a dealer mech. come out and he said the computer was bad.
Turns out there was a switch back in a storage compartment that got flipped by something the owner tossed in there. The switch allowed a nearby button to turn the eng over instead of the key up front.
The guy was a class act - he gave my friend a $200 tip.
