I have worn out my eyes reading about Norcold fires. Our new to us 05 Bounder has the 1200 NoCold. It works fine but haven't had a chance to give it A real workout. Amazingly the owner never had any recalls performed. Not that they do any good. We all worry about fires but I don't think there are any easy answers to the problem. Hard to apply logic to the emotion of fear of fire. I have decided we will do the following before any changes. First I am going to start the fridge and park it in the Mexican sun for 2 days with the fridge vent facing the afternoon sun. I will peel away the insulation from the area of the elements to inspect before starting the fridge. Apparently many of the fires are due to the elements shorting out. I also will check to see that the fans are operating and that the chimney and burner are both clean. David Force says that part of the problem is that the cooling unit is undersized and has to operate almost full time. This makes lots of heat. If the fridge passes my tests I will install an extra smoke detector and maybe extra fans up top. I will probably have the recall done so my insurance and extended warranty will cover any problems. If it fails my test I will probably go the Amish route.
