Norcold fires...

I've read a great deal about Norcold fires. And, maybe I just missed it but was wondering... when the fires ocurred, were the units working on gas or electricity? Thanks for your responses. / Larry
  • Both it seems but on electric is quite common from post. The photos show they start in the RV wiring powering the frig often.

Especially in the 1200 series they start failing so the heating elements can go to 100% duty cycle so heat can just build and build.

Look for near fire photos by Cloud Dancer (I think) and you will get the picture.

I think a frig that will get down to -5F/25F in the upper/lower boxes is more safe from fire when set on high. If you have a 1200 series (more wattage) that will not get to freezing in the lower box when on high for three days I would be very concerned about fire.

There are typically warning signs of failing cooling units. From what I can gather the cooling unit starts to go about 100% of the time before the fire comes.
