- IvylogExplorer IIIHere is my DIY installation of a 21 cuft Whirlpool refer that came within 1/2" too tall fitting perfectly in the 1200 hole. I had to take the drivers side window out to get it into the motorhome... easy enough to do.
Yes the Samsung is often used and it does not need a PSW inverter as it has D.C. compressors BUT it's 6" taller than a 1200. The DW did not want to loose the drawer underneath so I was able to save it with the Whirlpool.
One of the reasons I put off going residential is because we Boondock often. Amazing how energy efficient an energy star refrigerator is today... 8 amps D.C. Into my PSW inverter or 96 watts when running less than half the time. Would have saved $$$$ if I had given up on my POS NoCold five years ago. Going residential is the best thing I've done to my MH.
Do not even think about fixing or going back with another 1200... Like I did. :S - CA_TravelerExplorer IIISamsung RF18 may work for you.
There are many posts on a res refer upgrade. The issues can be will it fit, cabinet modifications, getting the refers out and in the rig. Res power usage when dry camping can be a concern.
Do your research. - kdkExplorersent you a PM

A lot of people have used a Samsung rf197 but that's long upgraded to another number...but if you have ammonia and there is an issue I'd turn off that fridge but fast...the fact that it is still working with that smell kind of contradict each other...
I did look at those, discontinued. :(
going to the RV place in the morning to see what my options are.

Any type of residential or dorm fridge is great! Solid ice cream is great too!
I have the double fridge freezer so a dorm fridge wont begin fill the hole. But Might have to get one and plug it in outside till this is resolved.
but yes I like ice cream frozen... - Fleetwood_CouplExplorer

So from what I read I need to replace the cooling unit. Unit is still working ok. I would rather go with a residential unit. Is there a model out there that will fit the opening with little to no modification of the cabinet?
Unless you're looking to get a new motor home( from insurance )...I would turn that son-of-a-gun completely off if it's leaking........
Norcold has had MANY FIRES.!!!!!
the other posts I read said it was only unsafe in propane mode. The smell also went away to, very strange I thought? - crassterExplorer IIX2 on the post above. TURN IT OFF!
