Absolutely, but if you are struggling with keeping one charged, how are are you going to keep two going with the method you are using. Think about your charging situation in conjunction with that approach.
I have the same trouble with our two-12v-battery setup. I am replacing our two 12v lead acid batteries with two sealed AGM 6V batteries hooked up in series, from Sam's club HERE. It won't solve the recharging issue, but am optimistic the new setup will help. I understand the AGM 6V batteries bounce back better with repeated recharging. I will find out for certain next season.
I rely on charging this way using the generator while parked for extended periods because the on-board inverter/charger is less effective for the short generator run times.
