LED lights are a big help, as mentioned. I recommend warm white lights from this ebay seller, assuming you have a mailing address or forwarding of some sort. Shipments take a few weeks from China:

At least 100W of solar on your roof would help a LOT. 200 or 300W even more so. It's a can of worms, of course. But if you study up on it, it's not too bad.
