Yes, the AGM's I looked at were Optima brand. Their Blue-Top marine battery has 75 amp hours and costs $299. My Nautilus lead acid battery has 105 amp hours and it cost me $90. So, to go with AGM I would need two to have at least the same amp hours as my lead acid battery, and they would cost $600. I could by 6 lead acid batteries for the same price.
I'm not saying that AGMs are not nice batteries, just that they are a LOT more expensive. Maybe the $500 difference in price would be better spent on solar panels.
Of course, there are good reasons to go with AGM's, such as not needing venting, no constant fluid level monitoring, and no boil over.
Oh, one other issue, AGM's require a different charge cycle, so ideally you may need to replace your converter/charger.
