More notes. I took it out and measured properly the mpg with the new Banks torque tubes.
First I went on a weight scale and I did it fully loaded (kids, wife, stuff, bicycles, ½ tanks of water, full tank of gas, etc…) total weight 6896kg or 15,800Lb.
Tires inflated at 75 all around. Speed 105km (65 mph) on cruise control. Altitude between 100ft to 1000ft.
Highway with just so long hills, serious head winds for the last 50km (30m), huge rain coming back. Some maneuvering on a farm and some city driving (15km, 9 mi).
No towing.
Total distance 414 km (259mi)
To fill the tank back up to the neck 98 liters (25.93gal us).
Consumption is 23.67 liters per 100km or 9.98 miles/gallon us
I have been measuring that rig on my journey across the US last month and never made better than 9 miles per gallon and worse in the mountains at 9000 feet was 6.9
That’s much better that I was making but still shy of the 10 miles per gallon.
Pretty sure I can beat this number next time by not letting the cruise control keep a constant speed going uphill (this changing gear) and slowing down to 60 instead of 65.
Will see
