I was in Ft Lauderdale two weeks ago. We were stopped at a traffic light and a pan handler started banging on our windows and shouting at us. First time I've ever seen this happen anywhere. I wish there were police on corners in Ft Lauderdale.

I've seen panhandlers shouting at folks all the time in Fort Lauderdale. It's not uncommon at all. In fact, I think the panhandlers are worse in South Florida than any other area I've seen. I don't think more police would help much in Fort Lauderdale because it is much more geographically spread out and it wouldn't be cost effective.
But this post is about New Orleans, not Fort Lauderdale. I can give you the scoop on Fort Lauderdale if you'd like.
The large presence of law enforcement in NOLA helped me feel safe, for sure.
