OFFICIAL Arizona Diesel Fuel Tax Info

After much to do, thanks to one of our forum members, I present below the OFFICIAL position relative to the diesel fuel tax situation in Arizona. The first post is the letter received from the Deputy Division Administrator. As you can see, Arizona is now acutely aware of the confusion and have promised to implement a change in their wording and pump stickers. In the following two pages, on AZDOT letterhead specifies RV's are NOT included, note section B. Personally, I've printed out the 2004 memo and carry it in the coach in case I'm challenged while fueling.....this is for everyone's information.

Please keep any comments constructive and to the point.. thanks...Dennis

As the saying goes......you don't know what you're missing. But that's okay, you leave enough room for the rest of us. :) :)
  • This is the third posting of letters from ADOT and excerpts from the 2004 ADOT policy stating MH are exempt from the use fuel tax. Let's not forget jlbr2 similar response from ADOTs Mr Zimmerman on 10/1/14.
Hopefully this clears it up for everyone.
I think the forum has done a good job.

Now about this thing in Oregon Old Biscuit. :)

And yet there really wasn't an issue....just a report of a toterhome (commerical vehicle) getting fined.

No other reports past/present of any RV MHs being hunted down/targeted/caught/fined because it didn't/doesn't happen.

There are not Teams of Fuel Tax Commandos lurking around fuel stations waiting to pounce

What's really irritating is not being able to pump your gas and having to educate attendants that you can pump your diesel in Oregon :B

Well I think there was an issue. You had people calling officials in AZ and being told that RV's did have to pay the tax and only fuel at commercial pumps. Whether there was actually a story of anybody in a non-toterhome getting a ticket, we really don't know. Nobody came on here and reported that but it didn't mean it doesn't happen. You also had a lot of RVers thinking they had to use the commercial pumps. So I for one see that there was an issue and I'm pleased we were able to help solve it.

  • After reading all the controversary about this Fuel tax both here and on the Escapee's Forum, I was browsing the Bluebird forum last week and came across the exact conclusion your post arrives at....that being MH's are exempt. Glad we have something definitive now, it was even suggested to some to carry a copy of this statement in the event you run into an over zealous tax enforcement agent. Good info...thanks
