Guess it is a good idea to have it checked. Of course for the price of the check I can change my oil 2 times. Well not quite.
On my 2002 V10 had over 110k miles. Changed every 4k miles. No noticeable oil consumption at 110k miles. I towed stock trailers loaded with cows. Pretty heavy towing. That is about $400 in oil at 110k miles. Putting that in the equation plus I used over $27k in gas for those miles. Oil is cheap. I change it often. On my MH I Change after every trip. Miles doesn't matter. I have 14k miles. I have put more than $6k in gas in it. I've done 4 oil changes about $80. Very interesting to know though. Mobile makes good oil Ford makes good V10s. I use standard Ford oil.
I can remember when Mobile first came out with Mobile 1. Many thought synthetic oil would ruin the engine. Now everyone uses synthetic oil.
