I suspect the 10K oil changes will work with a very good oil like Mobil1 EP. I've been a bit of champion of long oil changes. Certainly the analysis above pointed to a safe 7500K interval.
I still have a bit of problem with the fuel burn and the 6 quart pan. Most oil life monitors have two big parameters. Cold starts and operation before engine is fully warm. And fuel burn. An engine exposed to 9 MPG is simply going to have much more blowby and contaminants in oil than the same pan capacity exposed to 30 MPG. A way around this is larger pan capacity. One other factor that makes me conservative here is there is no easy way to see inside the engine to monitor cleanliness. Perhaps best would be looking at dipstick right above oil level and monitor varnish accumulation. Many other engines allow a peek into the valve cover and easy to see buildup from insufficient oil changes. One nice thing about these V10 engines is oil change is easily accomplished and reasonably priced using Walmart jugs and Ford filters.
