Oil Change

how many quarts does the big block chevy take on the P30 chassis and what weights do you use?

  • put 7 quarts in with filter, filter not as big as the ac delco I took off. Also installed a rebuilt starter as long as I was under there, starter has been turning over slower, now it doesn't
  • Choice of filter (length) can affect amount of oil - plus/minus a quart or more.
  • My Big Block Chevy takes exactly 6-1/2 quarts! The shop charges me for 7 quarts so I get 1/2 qt. back every oil change. I use Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil 5W-30W extended performance (has a gold cap on the oil jug).
  • We have a 1995 P30 with the 7.4 TBI and it takes 10W30 ...7 quarts with the filter change.

  • My 85 HR p-30 (454)took 7 qts. with a filter change. At the time i used 10-30 QS. 3708
  • Our 1994 takes 7qts w/filter, and I use 10W-30 dino oil
