- dad2aprincessExplorerWe have found that our electric heat doesn't work below 50 degrees.
You guys that are saying OK to run your furnace but turn it off when you re-fuel - are you turning off the propane tank itself or just turning off the heat with the thermostat? (When we refill the propane tank, the attendant doesn't even turn off the propane before he fills it.) - Desert_CaptainExplorer IIINo problem running the furnace under way "IF" you always remember to shut it down BEFORE entering a gas station. When that furnace (or your water heater), lights it is one very large flame.... can you say Wooomph?

- SnomasExplorerWe ran our furnace from Denver to Sedona late last Dec. It was a colder trip than we normally have taken in Dec.

Only if you are well insured and plan on collecting. Why do you think you have to shut OFF the gas to travel in Ferrys and can't even travel in tunnels even with the gas shut off.

Seriously? So you can't run your fridge while traveling either I guess. You need to turn these devices off before refueling and at other times but that doesn't mean you can't use them while driving down the road. The 75 gallons of gasoline I carry is just as big a bomb as the propane. - wa8yxmExplorer IIIThe thing many folks worry about when running the furnace down the road is what happens if for some reason it blows out.
Modern DSI furnaces... Either re-light or go into ignition lockout and shut down, completly, 100% safe.
Older pilot type (Assuming such exist) should also go into safety shutdown.
The danger.... If you get hit "Just so" and rupture a propane line, then the only thing that prevents the busted line from turning into a torch is the excess flow valve in the tank... The safety devices in the furnace are near foolproof, (In fact I have never heard of one failing) but the valve in the tank is not all that well tested. - sch911Explorer

Never understood why there are those who feel it's wrong to do this???? - bobmanchikExplorerOnly if you are well insured and plan on collecting. Why do you think you have to shut OFF the gas to travel in Ferrys and can't even travel in tunnels even with the gas shut off.

Stuff Happens - TrackrigExplorer IIOur dash heat will keep up with the heating needs for the front, but if it's cold out and we want to go to sleep as soon as we stop, I'll usually start the rear furnace an hour before we stop.
