Let me preface this by I've read the faqs on gas vs. diesel and have been doing a bit of research. I know diesels will ride smoother, quieter, pull better, and go longer between maintenance intervals...

A downside to DP, or anything with a tag axle, is you're buying two additional tires every 5 years or so.
The bigger tires on a DP are not cheap.
But, I think a DP is a good choice.
Take your time and look at everything before you decide.
