Onan 4000 gen

I am having a problem starting my generator I have noticed that when i press the start switch it turns over but it is not pumping gas to the carburetor I took it apart down to where the gas pump was and applied power the pump was working just fin so i am stump on why it is not pumping gas from the switch could the switch be bad or is there something ells that controls the pump.
