Single grade SAE-30 is preferable when temperatures are consistently above freezing. Multigrade oils are better when wide temperature variations are expected.
So, perhaps this is just an interpretation thing? I don't really operator my generator below freezing. Other than monthly testing during the cooler months, the generator isn't used at all until it is time for air conditioning.
