Sounds like it may be a bad or dirty fuel pickup in the main fuel tank itself. It is different than the vehicle pickup, it is mounted above the 1/4 tank of fuel level. You do have more than 1/4 tank of gas.
Easier try for a fix would be to blow air through the generator fuel line into the tank, this might clear any obstruction. If this doesn't work, you may have to drop the fuel tank to find the problem.
Since the genset works through a line to an external gas tank, the problem is not with the genset.
