The choke pull off diaphragm is connect to intake manifold vacuum and requires no attention if the diaphragm is not ruptured and the hose going to it is ok. No need to spray any chemicals in the carb. You indicated the generator run ok until you shut it down. I really think all you need to do is reattach the linkage, prop the choke open and get the generator running again. Lets not over think this problem. Get it running and see if it returns to normal. One issue at a time.
