Replaced in a Walmart parking lot while on a trip in Ohio about 7 years ago, maybe 30-45 mins and still works. I don't know why the Onan pump would cost so much more. I would think as long as the specs are the same I would replace it with any generic fuel pump.
I replaced mine with one from NAPA ($85). Took about 10 minutes to install. Unfortunately, I seem to have a problem with too much pressure. Priming doesn't stop like it did on the original pump and the motor won't start. It acts like the carburator is flooding.
Needs more investigation. Incidentally, the new pump looks identical to the original, except for the mounting bracket.
