Answer depends on the size of the batteries.. Group 24,29,27 no, Group 31, perhaps, 8D by all means it is is OK,
The smaller starting batteries are designed to deliver a major hunk of their capacity (Well perhaps 10%) in just a few seconds (30 or less).
Well, considering the 8D is what, 260-300 amp hours.. that 100 give or take a bit the starter draws is a tiny fraction of the C/20 rate. (1/3) so there will be no problem.
IN FACT.. on my 8.1L vortec, when the chassis battery is dead due to some stupid trick like headlights on while at church... The pair of GC-2's (Equal to a 4D) start it with no problem. Your 8d is bigger.
