Hi wannavolunteerFT, like you when we decided to purchase a newer Class A last year, I was trying to figure out my storage compartment needs and access. What I did was make a list of what I wanted in the storage. Then I started looking at newer rigs to get an idea of options. My wife did the inside, I did the outside and inside
These are some of the things on my list;
-Wanted no storage on slides as some campgrounds we go to don’t have enough room to open the doors when the slide is out, either up or swing out. Plants, trees, shrubs.
-I really didn’t want to crawl under the slides for access so was hoping that I would find a rig that used the storage under the slides for other things.
-Needed a full pass through for several items I carry, and tall storage compartments.
-Prefer full swing up doors
After looking for a little over a year, found a rig that we both enjoyed on the inside and met my needs on the outside. Under the Big slide there are three compartments. The first two have the propane tank and generator in them. The third one I put our chairs and other things we always need. I take all of this out before I extend the slide so won’t need to visit it again. On the bedroom slide there are two compartments. The back one is the AC/Heater system and once again, I have stuff in the other one that I normally take out before I extend the slide. The other compartments are out in the open so no problems with them. Two of my compartments on the passenger side are joined to together.
My swing up doors allow for all the compartments to be open and not have to walk around or open close the swing outs. At the camp site, the swing ups don't require that I move much stuff away to open them, where some of my friends need to move stuff away so they can open the swing outs. Think my friends need to take lessons from Scott. Heck, I'm going to print out Scott's pictures and share it with them.
By the way, when I mention swing up, my doors open all the way up so you don't bump you head, easy in out access.
Scott, great job on organizing.
Happy Hunting
