Back before I was a member here and before the conversion we had a 1989 Batwing. The reception became worse and worse and I figured the batwing was BO. Bought a new white one, no change. Became a member here and learned about the 12VDC to the head and checked my voltage. Varied up and down the scale so I decided to run a cable around thru the door and up to the antenna, walla it worked fine. Decided to change out the cable and found three pieces of cable to go approximately 6'. Replaced the cable and sure enough everything is fine. Too lazy to change back to the old antenna, have a spare and someday somebody will need one and I'll give it to them.
I don't know how big a set you have but we had two 13" sets, changed them to 19" flat panels, first one went so well I decided to change out the other. The one up front doubles as the TV in the spare bedroom/sewing room and has a DVD player built in for the DGKs. The set in the bedroom is also 19" but no DVD player but it did have a brick so I just hooked up directly to a 12VDC outlet in the bedroom and use an inverter and DVD player back there too. Paid just over $129.00 for one and $119.00 for the other. Would I recommend you change, yes, weight is insidental but the power consumption is so much less. Using the front TV and playing a DVD uses less power than the old CRT set. Before when on the 100watt inverter the front TV never had a full picture and was hard to turn on, now a beutiful picture and none of the problems from before. Not an easy changeout but well worth it.
