Over heating

I have a 1996 Fleetwood class A with the Chevy big block engine It is over heating. I know that the fan was replaced with a flex fan I'm not sure if the fan clutch was replaced but dose anyone know what fan and clutch needs to be in there?

They know of the problem and is going to fix it before they sell it.

  • Not only fan, but might check for flow on the rad itself.. Also, might have a minor blown head gasket, or any number of other things for a rig of that age.. ;)

It is best to try the easy and cheap stuff first, so looking at the coolant condition and change out the Tstat is first on the list of course..

    Good luck!

  • X-3 for the fan clutch. That would be my first guess for the problem. Second would be a bad thermostat. I would check the thermostat first since it's easier to do.
  • I kept the steel fan blades and installed the Hayden Severe Duty Fan Clutch. The flex type blades work against you as they are designed to flatten-out at high RPM for fuel economy and not cooling.
  • If the flex fan has fiber glass blades, it probably not up to the job. If the fan is one of GM's old 7 bladed, metal flex fans, it's probably up to the job and you need to look else where for your problem. The fiber glass fans will have a high pitched zing. The metal flex fans with have more of a roar. Either way, a clutched fan is the best of both worlds as far as cooling and noise.
