Pacific Pride-Pioneer Fuel

Anybody have a Pacific Pride Account through Pioneer Fuel still? If you do, make sure you call them for current pricing before filling up. I just got my bill for last month and got charged $3.469 a gallon for diesel in Carson City last month. The regular commercial gas stations the next block over had diesel in the $2.70 price range. That's about .77 cent a gallon more for the convenience of using Pacific Pride and had I know there was that much difference, no way in heck would I have done it. Cost me over $57.00 more for 75 gallons! $3.469 is what you would have to pay in areas of California right now.

In my past experience I have seen diesel prices a few cents cheaper at Pacific Pride and few cents more than the regular stations, but never a price difference this high.

  • I use the PP sometimes depending on the fuel prices around. There are times PP is cheaper and then times they cost more. I always call to check prices before using the system. My recent fill up was PP at $3.03 and the cheapest local was $3.34. It pays to check prices before pulling into the station.

    Your mileage may vary

Pioneer Fuel charges I think 5 cents a gallon for providing the account and then you pay whatever the individual station owner charges. Normally it's always been about the same price or within a few cents of what the local prices. The problem is you don't know the price as it's not on the pump. If you want to know before you pump you have to call Pioneer fuel and they can look it up for you. I never did that before and just waited until I got my bill. Today's bill was a little of shock.

As far as I know Pioneer is one of the few places where you can get a commercial cardlock account for a private motorhome that doesn't have a minimum purchase requirement. The other places that offer accounts for motorhome owners you have to purchase a minimum amount every month and most people wouldn't make the minimum year round.

Really the only advantage to the cardlock is their locations are nice and big and usually you are the only one there when filling up. And they don't have a $50 or $100 limit on the pump so you can pump 100 gallons if you need to without resetting. I lived in California when I originally got the account and there was a Pacific Pride near the house and it was nice and big and none of the gas stations that had diesel were easy access. Now it's not that critical for me anymore so I won't be using the cardlock anymore.
  • Yup, that's one of the other ones. There are several places along that stretch that had the same price. I'm up in Reno but my motorhome is stored down there because I got a really good price on an indoor place. It was the perfect spot because of the Pacific Ride really close too, but that isn't going to work now. But those other stations are all big enough for easy access with the motorhome. The only problem is you have to restart the pump three times to get a fill up.

I'm sure the other location you're referring to is the Maverik station at E. College Pkwy & Research Way.

I live in Carson City and use this station whenever I can. About two years ago they added a truck section with DEF and a CAT scale as shown in the following photos:

  • Sounds like using Pacific Pride is a whole bunch of hassle. Move on.
  • I"ve noticed it more in the past too, but never more than a few cents a gallon. No way in heck would I have used them if I knew it was going to be $3.47 a gallon. But I'm not going to call in every time I want fuel, so that will be the last I'll use it. I'll keep the card until they close my account for lack of use.
  • we have an account but haven’t used it primarily due to their pricing...usually more than conventional stations and the lack of a convenient way to check pricing.
