Paint

The difference between black and white is that you can put your hand on a white car that has been sitting in the sun, you cannot on a black car. Amazing how hot black will get.

I was doing some caulking on our Dynasty roof and we basically have a white coating on most of the fiberglass roof. The black color comes up on top of the roof about 3 ft. over the driver's area. If the coach has been sitting in the sun for a while, I cannot touch that black area to wash it, I have to stay in the white coated area and reach over.

When we ordered our new Winnebago Vista, I didn't like any of the color options, I went with the brown turd color with swirls. I just hope it lasts at least 10 years or until I retire and by a new rig.

like many others its manufactured this way.

I cant say that its any cooler - but i can tell you we have no problem keeping it 70 degrees during the day....even in high humidity/texas 105* (f) direct sunlight.

our roof is single sheet aluminum (no coating)...and while the roof gets hot (if you stand on it) it probably helps to reflect a lot of heat and keep the coach cool too.

Ive got a couple of "smoked"/dark skylight/vent fan covers - i keep 'em insulated w/ double bubble/foil insulation AND the vent pillows....if you take the insulation out you can really feel the heat....so as a comparative....the light color HAS to lend itself toward a cooler (temperature) coach.

My MH is 11 years old and another MH owner thought it was brand new, still has the original Travel Supreme paint job done by Precision Painting in Bremen, IN. I would not trade it for what looks like a giant refrigerator going down the road, just my opinion.

Id rather have a giant refrigerator than a giant brown turd w/ stripes...

After your all white paint job did you notice any reduction in heat build up when traveling? or in a CG running the ac's on a sunny day?

Like with anything, if it's 'out of the ordinary', you will have a tough time selling it. When the coach manufacturers design their coaches with, let's say, five or six color schemes and interior designs that coordinate with the exterior colors, they have paid a designer good money to make everything match and blend.

Now, if you go with British Racing Green, your interior should be in the tan/brown/cream/dark rust or maybe some red, etc. Not many people are going to want a green motorhome (Remember Robin Williams in that movie with the green rental?). But, it's yours and it should be exactly the way you want it.

Cars are the same, weird combo's just don't sell as well. Black, white, silver sell so much better than blue and green cars. Currently, we have eight cars (never seem to sell the old ones but that's going to change soon).... anyway, we have three creams, one bright white, two blacks and two silver's. I always think of resale which may not mean much really as a car ages.

I agree with you and do not like all of the swirls and scallops either. I am familiar with British Racing and have seen it on may small sports cars and some mid-size coupes. If you check some of the more current European automobile brochures, you will find that BRG is not as popular as it once was.
Personally I would add another color or two to break up the monotony of a single color on a large flat surface. Here are a couple of pretty basic paint schemes that do not have the swirls. Keep in mind that really the only person you have to please is yourself.

sounds nice ! but didnt someone say green was one of the colors that reduced resale or value ? Remember darker colors are gonna show the dirt & look dirty sooner than they probably are ?

I'm with you on the "attract less attention" idea....id rather have the luxury on the inside & let everyone wonder if theres anything inside worth stealing.

not sensitive at all - ugly comments beget ugly comments.

im not sure what the factory does to seal the exterior - all we've ever done is wax it, the body has never shown any signs of oxidization. Ive seen OTR's that show dulling of the paint when theyre not waxed.

I've got 3M "clear bra" on the front of our coach (to protect it from bugs & stone chips).

We have also received compliments of our nearly 7 yr. old coach as I keep it shiny and clean. About 2 yrs. ago I parked next to a guy and he thought that I was delivering a new coach to somebody (I didn't know I looked like a delivery guy). When I told him our coach was 5 yrs. old (at the time) he couldn't believe it.

We are in the middle of painting a new coach and I have looked at designs until my eyes crossed. Each coach from our manufacturer that we are buying from designs the paint for each owner so no two are alike.

I appears that swirls are on there way out and designs are getting a little more stream-lined. Heavy swirls have been around for at least 12 yrs. Also, I can see the appeal of a solid color but we wanted a little design in the paint. Shadowing in the paint is the new thing now, some will like it, some will not. I didn't like it at first, but now, I really like it and that's what is going to be incorporated into our paint scheme.

Bshpilot, I see that you are a little sensitive about your solid white coach. You don't see many solid white so yours is unique. But, I'm curious, do you have a clear coat or something to protect the fiberglass?
