I am reading the posts with interest since I have a 2014 that will be delivered in a week. The MPG numbers are of interest to me and I wonder how those reported are calculated. The best way to calculate MPG is to go from fill up to fill up and the miles traveled between full ups. Results will vary because filling up might be incomplete, but doing this repeatedly the average will be correct. MPG coming from the built in computer which I believe is being reported here scan be in error due to calibration.
I agree that milage obtained by measuring fuel at fill-ups versus odometer reading can be more accurate but with a 700 mile range on a tank that could take a while to get and then average to eliminate error due to incomplete filling. Also, how should I allow for generator usage and how do I report on various driving conditions without stopping for fuel everytime the conditions change and still get a report out in time to be of use to the people that are currently shopping?
When you generate a more accurate report please post it.
I can say that from the fuel I have purchased so far the trip computer is not overstating fuel economy more than 5%. How much of that error is due to generator usage and filling variation I cannot say.
On a related note, the generator is disabled with about 22 gallons left in my tank. I assume that this is to be sure that I don't run the tank dry while parked miles from a fuel station. While this is a good idea I would like for safety reserve to be a little lower but I am told that it is not adjustable. Just letting people know not to plan on 800-900 miles on a tank while enjoying house air-conditioning on a hot day. The notices that you are low on fuel get pretty annoying too. This is minor but you are required to carry around 150lbs and $80 worth of fuel that you are highly discouraged from using.
