Picking up from MH manufacturer

Hi folks,

Is there an advantage in picking up your new MH directly from the manufacturer instead of a dealer? I realize you have to go through a dealer to make the sale, but is the dealer best place to pick it up?

Thanks for your help,

Harry
  • Most OEM's will require you to PAY for a factory PDI and delivery. Newmar used to charge about $1500. The disadvantage of factory delivery is IF you are not going to use the unit after factory pick up and you are just going to drive it home, ANY road damage, Windshield rock chips and such are on you and nobody else. The odds are, you will not be transporting all your RV camping equipment to the factory since IF you have a trade in, you will not be able to take it there as the dealer owns it not you. You need to contac the Salesman for any brand you are considering and ask if Factory pick up is available. MOST factories discourage factory pick up so they have a high price involved to do that. • That's a really good question. You could avoid any dame in transit but even though the sale was made at a dealer, I could see them not wanting to handle any PDI type fixes since you took possession of it. How far is the manufacturer and would you be ok with staying a bit while they fix the inevitable defects on a new RV or going back again?

Besides the drive, the PDI repairs should be a lot more trouble free since the dealer, transporter and manufacturer wont be fighting about who foots the bill.
