Pioneer RV Park and Resort

I was wondering if anyone has stayed at the Pioneer RV Park down in Port Aransas on Padre Island. Looking to possibly stay there in October. Want something really close to the Gulf. Any suggestions would be helpfull.
  • We have stayed for several weeks each of the last two winters at Pioneer. The premiun spaces are very nice, not overly wide but wide enough so you dont feel claustrophobic. The regular spaces are quite narrow and I would not stay in one. The beach access is very good, just a short boardwalk across the dunes from the parks SE corner. Very nice pool, spa and clubhouse. At the prices they charge I think an upcharge for cable is a bit of a reach but that's an option that can be easily foregone as there is so much to do other than watch tv.
  • By the pictures it looks like a nice park. I want to do some shore fishing and it doesn't look like a very long walk to the ocean. Seems like Pioneer RV park and ON the Beach RV park are the closest to the beach. Thanks for the input.
  • I would recommend Pioneer over On the Beach. OTB is much tighter and doesnt have near the amenities. Beach access is similar. I'm not a fisherman but have seen a number all along that beach, but most seem to favor the jetty that projects out on the south side of the ship channel at the north end of the island.
  • This should be posted on "RV Parks, Campgrounds and Attractions" forum. Dick
  • Have you ever stayed that close to the beach before? Extended stays can cause your rig to get very rusty.
  • If you want a wide, electric/water site on the beach with individual picnic tables in a concrete shelter, try Goose Island State Park across the Copano Bay bridge from Rockport. You also have a choice of shaded sites in the live oak trees, but we chose a beach site (we don't have many ocean beaches in Colorado!). And Rockport has all the services/stores you need plus a shrimp fishing fleet, an oyster fleet, and charter fishing in the bay and Gulf, so lots of great seafood.

Beautiful sunsets, lots of water and shore birds (including whooping cranes right in town during the winter), and a long, lighted fishing pier make it hard to leave Goose Island!
