please explain an inverter to me
What does it do, and when do I need to use it? Sorry if this question is so elementary, but I just have a hard time with electrical stuff.

Inverter changes 12v DC to 110v AC, same as what you get from a plug at home. Use it anywhere you need 110v and only have 12v. such as if you want to run your computer which plugs into 110V, and only have 12v as in your car or truck.
