PLEASE Help, its dead.

I have a 95 gulfstream sunstream gxl class a.
today I was fiddling around with the different systems to make sure winter hasn't silently destroyed anything.
well I started her up, checked some other systems,
figured I'd drop the leveling jacks.
I have a bigfoot Quadra eze II system. Not automatic leveing .
anyway jacks all worked, so I turned the coach engine off, turned the ignition key to the run position, then held the brake and used the "aux start" key on my leveling control panel. It tried to turn over for about 2 seconds and quit. Got a check engine light on the dash and cannot start the coach back up.
tried disconnect the battery,and retry. Nothing!
it basically clicks and won't crank.
did I really mess something up here or what? Looked behind the level control panel for a fuse. Can't find any, also checked my fuse box for any blown fuse, nothing.
any ideas?

  • I recently had a similar problem. The engine would not start and the starter selinoid clicked and the check engine light was on as well as the ABS ADVISORY . The solution was one of the 12 volt engine batteries had a shorted cell. In my case I used a Stress Tester to find the bad battery. I replaced both engine batteries and the problem was solved.

  • What does the voltage read on the battery, before you put it on the charger?
  • I used a CNC QD elctronic cleaner and wire brush, everything was put back dry and tight.
    guess I'll get my buddy out there with his scanner and try to go from there.
    going to pull out the battery and drop it on my charger in the shop overnight, see if it'll help any in the morning.
  • I'm definitely not an expert. But, over the years I have learned that whenever you have electrical/starting problems, check your battery first. Make sure it's charged, then check the battery connections, including the ground wire.
    Batteries can be funny animals and do strange things.

    Would a dead battery throw a Check Engine light.

    You turned on the ignition, the computer gave you time to get it running and the computer is NOT at this time receiving pulses from the engine counter, Thus it thinks the engine is not running, (Which of course it is not) so something MUST be wrong with the engine.

    On an OBD 1 it would be sending, if I Recall correctly 8 8 8 as the trouble code (Means, Engine is not running.. Ok so they have a much fancier translation but it means.. Engine not running).

    Alas this is the kind of issue I am better at with hands, and a test light, ON scene.
  • Maybe not the battery, but a weak or bad alternator might trigger the check engine light.

    Turn on your head lights while you are trying to start the vehicle. If the headlights go dim while trying to start, then look at the battery.

    You mentioned you cleaned the battery terminals. How did you clean them? Baking soda? I hope not. Did you remove each terminal and clean the post and the clamp portion of the cable? You might want to re visit the cleaning issue. They might not be all that clean after all.
  • I just cleaned and tightened all my connections a few weeks ago after having an issue with my generator and hot ground wire,

    just feels strange that it started up no issue 20 min prior, then the engine was running.
    its driving me crazy, it started down pouring shortly afterwards which makes trouble shooting pretty miserable.
  • "Click won't crank" is a sign of dead/weak batteries or corroded connections at the battery.
