I will put in my two cents having stayed at Pontchartrain Landing several times not by preference but strictly convenience. It is in a rundown industrial area on an industrial canal off of the lake but it is a safe area as far as I know. The road leading in is paved but extremely rough and as another poster said watch your directions carefully, both going in and out, or you will find yourself in a bind. The interior of the campground is ok, a little dusty at times, the exterior back-in sites are reasonably spaced and they will guide you to your spot. No traffic noise to speak of.
Maybe it is just me, but every time we have been there the quiet of the area, especially at night, is disturbed by some type of very loud noise emanating from a factory across the canal on a periodic basis. I am guessing some type of huge air compressor but it is loud and this past Easter kept all four of us from a good nights sleep. Bring ear plugs.
Next time we will brave crossing going thru the city and cross the bridge to try out Bayou Segnette SP.
