In my old 1987 Class'A' 30 ft. was a P30 chassis 454. I found the following a great help. If it's still equiped with the old 'After burn' system that used a belt driven air pump to 'Reburn' exhaust at the exhaust manifold, GET rid of that Air Pump. Simply measure & buy a shorter drive belt & pinch off all 8 air tubes to the manifolds. At the bottom rite side of the crank case where the 2 exhausts come together at a 'Y' there is a 'Baffle' inside the tube. It usually becomes stuck in the closed position. REMOVE it. Install at least 4 inch duel exhaust pipe with duel mufflers. Advance the engine timing to about 15 BTDC or just before it starts to cause engine 'Ping". If you haven't already, you WILL experience the following problems, 1. Exhaust manifolds cracking. The only help is to install the BEST Aftermarket Copper manifold gaskets. 2. Starter motor heat absorbtion when stopped as at a gas station. Heat from the exhaust manifold causes plunger to freeze stuck & won't move until it cools off. Install a Heat jacket around the starter motor. Keep a spare set of Electronic module that fit inside the Distributor cap. Check that the centrifical force weights inside the distributor cap are free to move. If U ever have the problem of the engine seeming to starve for fuel when pulling a long gradual hill Check if the rear of the coach sits lower on one side of the chassis. If so it may be rubbing the fuel lines atop the gas tank and allows air to be sucked into a chaffed spot in the line.
