My wife and I also were looking quite a while for a first time motorhome. We had friends who had more troubles with the Thor than they ever imagined and finally decided to sale it and buy a stick house near the beach. I started asking around about Thor after than since they did seem to be the best priced but I now believe you get what you pay for. Several (many)salesmen suggested I stay away from the Thor.
We settled for a smaller but best quality Newmar. Anything larger would have been too expensive for our needs. I'd stick with a Winnabago,Fleetwood or other mid priced unit before settling for the Thor. But, there is never a guarantee that any one is going to be better than the other.
Important thing is that your happy and travels are enjoyable. Good Luck in your search.
