Thanks for all the information. This is a new Motorhome for us. 2007 Georgetown M-350 Bunk model. I'm sure the batteries could use replaced and we will look into Solar also. Gonna check the battery bay and make sure we don't have room for 2 more Deep 6v batteries.. Thank you for all the information. Only asking cause this has been an issue with every RV we have ever owned. We have had 2 Toyhauler trailers and this is our second Motorhome and all have had batteries that died if running heat at night. Time to get this one figured out. Thanks..
We use the Mr. Heater Big Buddy plumbed into our motor home's propane line. We us this setup during the day while skiing. We have not slept with it on, however, many do. Even with windows cracked enough to allow proper ventilation, the heater, for us, never gets run on hi, unless it is really cold (like -10 to -20) with a strong wind... Providing ventilation does not negate the heat produced by the Mr. Heater... far from it. If the temps are in the teens to 30s, the amount of heat this heater produces far exceeds the amount of loss due to properly ventilating. This also helps with moisture control.
Now, since you have not been able to make it even one night in any of your rigs, my guess is that you are not taking proper care of your batteries (no offense meant!!!) The most important steps are making sure to not run them down below 50% of their capacity (or if you do, not very many times) and most importantly, making sure that you get them charged up to full capacity before you start the whole thing over again. The last 10% is the hardest and I think where most go awry. It can take a long time to get 2 6-volts all the way up to 100% full. You cannot rely upon your on-board gauge for this, you need a voltmeter. Relying on your alternator to charge the battery bank is not a good choice. You need to run a good charger (either the built-in one or a separate battery charger to get the batteries all the way up.
If you have run the current batteries down below 50% alot and you do not get them all the way back to 100% charge, then you may need new batteries (I know this from personal experience and 2 ruined brand new batteries). You should be able to go one night on 2 6-volts.
Good luck!!!!
