It also comes down to which Workhorse chassis, as that brand went on three completely different chassis (not counting the UFO), all using the 8.1 V-8 but differing in suspension technology, structure, and drivetrain components. E.G. not all Workhorse branded chassis with the 8.1 got Allison transmissions, and as with the Ford you will find different wheel sizes on different GVWRs, different braking solutions for different sizes and model years.
I have an aversion, based on experience within our RV club, to the smaller GVWR Workhorse models based on the GM P-chassis, while the later straight axle smaller chassis (W-16 and W-18 for example) are more similar to the smaller sizes of the F-53.
W-22 and W-24 had brake issues, resolved by a recall, if the original owner took care of the problem by having the work done.
But other than avoiding an old P-chassis, I would pick the house I want and not worry about the brand of drivetrain components.
