Primary air gauge - replacement/repair

My 2007 Coachman RV had an air leak sound coming from behind the dash. I took the gauge out and found a hairline crack on the plastic body where the air line attaches.

It is a Freightliner 12v 2" Air Primary gauge that the green hose goes into. It has a Freightliner part number of P/N: W22-00008-028 on it.

I sent an email to a couple salvage yards to see if they have any available.

I called Freightliner and the part number is superseded by a different one but it is available for + $200.

Has anyone ever tried to epoxy a crack like this ??

  • Good to see you got some kind of discount. Make sure you don't over tighten the mounting hardware.
  • Upon further inspection I found the Secondary Air Gauge had been glued and a hose clamp applied to the plastic portion and it also was leaking slowly in the same area.... so I gave up on my idea of gluing it since it didn't work on the secondary gauge.
I just sucked it up and bought two new gauges at my local Freightliner. Surprised they didn't charge retail price and got them for cheaper than other parts places online. They also have a 1yr warranty on them so hopefully if I am going to have another problem with them it will happen sooner and not later.

  • This probably goes against current wisdom, but here's my opinion.

If the air system can keep up with the leak with the cracked guage installed, then I would try JB weld or some type of patch for plastic on it before I spent $200 for a new gauge.

  • We had the same problem. Tried two new gauges, both leaked right out of the box and had to be returned.
So we ended up fixing it with JB WELD.
  • Try a Big Rig Salvage Yard. I know where I can lay My hands on this sort of stuff here in BC . expect to pay about one third to one half depending on condition.

the connection to those gauges is a pressure connection(not sure what it is called) you may be able to squeeze and release the tubing, snip and reconnect. it worked for me. sorry i don't know the name of the connector but it is the same kind used on fish tanks for the air lines

The air fitting appears to be brass. Air hose is fine. I was hoping it was a cracked line, would have been an easy fix. Appears to be the same type of 1/2" air line and fittings as is on my Firestone RideRite air bags.

The crack is not really visible here but a GLARE from the flash is right where the crack is.

Not sure I'd want a "Mickey Mouse" fix on an air line....just sayin....

Get a part number off the gauge and google it...maybe you'll get lucky. Otherwise spend the $$ and do it correctly...JMHO....Dennis
