We had a (possibly) similar problem with our E350, V10, a few years back. It had to do with the rear differential. Ford suggested adding some kind of special lubricant to it, which I did, and the noise went away. Might be the same thing you're experiencing. The noise was especially noticeable when making turns in a parking lot, where it was much easier to hear. Good luck
